About
Readings is free, source-labelled data on North American crude oil and natural gas, built from public filings.
The numbers behind pipelines, terminals and refineries are public but scattered across thousands of filings. This site puts them in one place, for analysts, reporters and anyone who wants to see where the oil and gas go.
What’s here
How it works
- Public sources only. The EIA, FERC, the Railroad Commission of Texas, the Canada Energy Regulator and Statistics Canada.
- Every figure carries its source. You can see where each number came from.
- Reported and estimated are labelled apart. Where a source is incomplete, the gap is shown, not filled.
An independent personal project, not affiliated with any agency or company named here. Nothing here is trading advice.
Privacy
There are no accounts or sign-ups here, and this site sets no cookies. The only form is Contact. The code, fonts and data are all served from this site itself.
- Your theme choice
- If you switch between light and dark, that choice is saved in your own browser’s local storage so the next page opens the same way. It never leaves your browser, and clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
- Visit counts
- The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see, in aggregate, which pages are read, where readers arrive from, their country and device type, and how fast pages load. It uses no cookies or browser storage and does not follow you to other sites. An ad blocker may stop it, which is fine.
- Contact form
- If you use the Contact form, your name, email address and message are sent through Cloudflare, which delivers them by email to the person who runs this site. Nothing you send is stored on this site, and your details are used only to reply to you.
- Hosting and maps
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which, like any web host, handles your IP address and request in order to deliver the pages (Cloudflare’s privacy policy). The map pages load their background map tiles from CARTO, which receives your IP address and the page address while serving them.
